Grangehurst
Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1998
Bordeaux-Style wines from South Africa
About this Item
Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1998
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
The 1998 Stellenbosch vintage produced wines of considerable structure and dark fruit concentration from the Helderberg and Simonsberg slopes, with the finest examples combining the density of a warm year with the freshness of well-managed canopies at altitude. The Grangehurst Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1998 exemplifies this character, its structured, cedar-inflected, dark-fruited profile a textbook expression of the Helderberg at its best. Grangehurst was established in 1992 by Jeremy Walker, a Cape Winemakers Guild member renowned for his unhurried, handcrafted approach and extended ageing philosophy. The Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is the flagship of the range, produced from hand-selected fruit from premium Helderberg and Simonsberg vineyards, fermented in open vessels and aged for extended periods in French oak before release.
Provenance
This lot comes from the late Harold Eedes, who served as Managing Director of Wine Magazine for nine years. A highly respected and much-loved figure in the South African wine industry, Harold assembled a thoughtful collection that includes a number of mature Bordeaux wines. The wines have been professionally stored under temperature-controlled conditions at Brice & Burnett since acquisition.
