About this Item
Red 1987
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
This wine has been checked and re-corked by Amorim, under the protection of an argon gas blanket, with each opened bottle being topped up with reserve wine from the same vintage, recorked, and resealed. This was done under the supervision of a technical team from Amorim Corks and Strauss & Co Fine wine Specialists Higgo Jacobs and Roland Peens, assuring provenance, quality and long life. The Seal code on the neck of the bottle can be traced on Amorim Recorking Directory
A rare piece of South African vinous history. Welgemeend was among the pioneering estates to embrace a Bordeaux-inspired approach to red winemaking in the Cape during the 1970s and 1980s.

Critics Ratings
'The first label in South Africa to offer a Bordeaux blend. An elegant wine with cool, minty notes, juicy sweet fruit and a savoury edge. Quite bright and well framed, with a wild Rhône-like spice and rustic grip. Very enjoyable and at its peak.' - Roland Peens, 92/100 (March 2026 – Tasted at recorking.)
