Côte-Rôtie Terrasses 2016

The Distinguished Cellar of David Brice
About the Session

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Wine Cellar, fine wine merchants. His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Wine Cellar thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

David celebrated the variation of vintage but also took advantage of great vintages. Over the last 10 years the 2016s have proven to be one of the greatest modern-day Bordeaux vintages, on par or superior to the likes of 2010, 2009 or 2005. Across Bordeaux, the wines are structured and pure combining exotic notes and sweet fruit. As part of our annual 10-year auction, we showcase 2016 Bordeaux vintage which will delight over many decades, especially in large format. David also bought the highly regarded Italian vintage, which produced exceptional wines in Piedmont and Tuscany especially.

About this Item

Côte-Rôtie Terrasses 2016
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
The name "Terrasses" refers to the terraced vineyard sites within the iconic Côte‑Rôtie appellation, steep slopes planted to Syrah that benefit from excellent sun exposure and drainage, giving the wine both concentration and minerality. This cuvée is typically sourced from a blend of esteemed parcels around Ampuis, capturing the classic Côte‑Rôtie character while offering a slightly more approachable, yet still ageworthy profile.

Critics Ratings

‘The 2016 Cote Rotie shows lovely black cherry and dark berry fruit. It's medium to full-bodied, with a rich, supple mouthfeel and a long, silky finish. It's not the most nuanced Côte Rôtie out there, but it's certainly satisfying, and it should continue to gain complexity over the next decade or so. 2019-2030’ - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Dec 2019)

‘Deep, brilliant ruby. Spice-accented aromas of fresh black and blue fruits, violet and olive, along with a hint of cola. Juicy and seamless on the palate, offering gently sweet boysenberry and cherry flavors that are sharpened by a peppery nuance. Shows good focus on the nicely persistent, gently tannic finish, which leaves a note of bitter chocolate behind. 2022-2029’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 90/100 (Apr 2020)
