Passage (Reception)
This painting is a portrait of Richard Lumley, 1st Earl of Scarborough (1650-1721), who was an English soldier, statesman and gentleman of the bedchamber to William III. Kneller is known to have painted Lumley's son in 1717, a portrait that is held at the National Portrait Gallery, London.
