A Chinese Canton painted and lacquered fan, Qing Dynasty, circa 1880
the guards and sticks gilt-lacquer decorated against a black ground with figures in a walled garden before a pavilion, the fan leaf brightly painted with figures within elaborate terraced pavilions observing a figure on his white horse, the reverse similarly painted with courtiers attending a seated young man, each figure with finely detailed ivory face and fabric attire, mother-of-pearl eyelets, damage to the folds, some tears, loss of paint, the guards 28cm long
