The Distinguished Cellar of David Brice: A Rhône Collection
About the SessionThe late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Wine Cellar, fine wine merchants. His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Wine Cellar thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.
The Rhône valley was one of David’s favoured regions, known for its diverse range of reds and whites. These were quintessential French wines from excellent easy-drinking, to fine, long-term treasures. He enjoyed wines from all the villages from Vaucluse to Vacqueyras, and Cornas to Côte-Rôtie. David focused on top vintages for long-term maturation and lesser vintages for earlier drinking. The highlight perhaps is his deep collection of top Châteauneuf-du-Pape from great vintages like 2010 and 2007.

Critics Ratings
‘Also terrific, the 2018 Cornas Chante Perdrix boasts ruby/purple color as well as rocking notes of cassis, black raspberries, smoke game, pepper, and white flowers. With some background oak, full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and remarkable purity, this slightly modern styled, yet pure, balanced Cornas is a head turner.’ - Jeb Dunnuck, 94/100 (Nov 2020)
‘Opaque ruby color. Smoke- and spice-accented dark berries, cherry, licorice and violet on the fragrant nose. Round and appealingly sweet, offering juicy blackberry, cherry-cola, mocha and cracked pepper flavors and savory hints of olive and cured meat. The dark berry and spice notes drive a long, smoky finish that's framed by velvety, well-knit tannins. 2025-2034’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (Dec 2022)
‘Strong showing (tasted blind) for the 2018 Cornas Chante Perdrix, which comes from two parcels of vines-purchased fruit from mid-slope and estate fruit from the top of the appellation. A bit herbal and peppery, it also boasts ample blueberry fruit on the full-bodied palate. It's creamy and supple, with just a slight bitter edge on the finish that should be resolved by the time it goes into bottle.2021-2030’ - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Dec 2019)
