The Distinguished Cellar of David Brice: A Rhône Collection
About the SessionThe late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Wine Cellar, fine wine merchants. His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Wine Cellar thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.
The Rhône valley was one of David’s favoured regions, known for its diverse range of reds and whites. These were quintessential French wines from excellent easy-drinking, to fine, long-term treasures. He enjoyed wines from all the villages from Vaucluse to Vacqueyras, and Cornas to Côte-Rôtie. David focused on top vintages for long-term maturation and lesser vintages for earlier drinking. The highlight perhaps is his deep collection of top Châteauneuf-du-Pape from great vintages like 2010 and 2007.

Critics Ratings
Grand Veneur Côtes du Rhône les Champauvins 2009
‘The 2009 Les Champauvins Cotes du Rhone is their single-vineyard Cotes du Rhone that comes from a vineyard just across the street from where the appellation of Chateauneuf du Pape ends. This is a big, full-bodied, more structured Cotes du Rhone, with notes of kirsch, licorice, black truffles and meat juices. It is a heady wine with moderate tannins that are still present. It will benefit from another 6-12 months of bottle age and drink well for 5-7 years.' - Robert M. Parker, Jr., Wine Advocate (May 2011)
Grand Veneur Côtes du Rhône les Champauvins 2015
‘Deeper in color than the Cotes du Rhone Reserve, the 2015 Cotes du Rhone les Champauvins is a solid step up, with fabulously complex notes of Bing cherry, blueberries, raspberries, spring flowers and pepper all emerging from the glass. Medium to full-bodied, rich and beautifully textured, it tastes more like a Chateauneuf du Pape than a Cotes du Rhone. Drink it anytime over the coming 4-5 years.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, 90-92/100 (Oct 2016)
‘There's a revitalizing mineral freshness here, balancing buoyant, juicy black plum and mulberry flavors with shades of crushed granite and quartz. It's full bodied and bold in alcohol but exceptionally well integrated. Fresh acidity and fine grained, grippy tannins linger elegantly on the finish. Enjoy now–2021.’ - Anna Lee C. Iijima, Wine Enthusiast, 90/100 (Jul 2018)
