About this Item
A pair of Chinese blue and white porcelain bottle-shaped vases, Kangxi period, 1662-1772
Notes
Each vase is decorated in underglaze blue with conventional bands of ruyi-head (jui-head) borders and scrolling foliate motifs. The ruyi-head border, derived from the stylised lingzhi fungus, is traditionally associated with good fortune, prosperity and the granting of wishes. The bottle-shaped form, with its narrow neck and rounded body, is characteristic of Kangxi period domestic wares and was particularly favoured for floral display and decorative table settings during the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
Provenance
