Notes
These works have evolved out of the Ncheka, the traditional woman's cape of the Tsonga/Shangaan. The artist, Given Makhubele, is the son of Billy Makhubele, a pioneer in the making of wire sculpture who was selected to represent South Africa at the Valparaiso Biennale in Chile in 1985. Billy and his family's artworks are represented in many museums and public collections in South Africa.
