About this Item
The wines in this lot have all been checked and re-corked by Amorim, under the protection of an argon gas blanket, with each opened bottle being topped up with reserve wine from the same vintage, recorked, and resealed. This was done under the supervision of a technical team from Amorim Corks and Strauss & Co Fine wine Specialists Higgo Jacobs and Roland Peens, assuring provenance, quality and long life. Critics Ratings
Alto Rouge 1984
'The 1984s from Stellenbosch are generally lighter than 1982s and 1986s and the 1984 Rouge shows this well. There is a cherry-berry swirl around a fine acidity, light texture and lovely poise. A lively wine that is a pleasure to drink. A blend of Cinsaut, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Tinta Barocca. Best drunk within a decade.' - Roland Peens 92/100, (July 2025)
Fleur du Cap Cabernet Sauvignon 1984
'This is a classic South African 80s Cabernet Sauvignon that has aged well. Quite lean with firm acidity and tannins. A bit rustic, there is good fruit purity, savour and length. Drink within a decade.' - Roland Peens 90/100, (July 2025)
Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon 1984
'This is a traditional and classic South African red from the 1980s. Hints of meat, amongst red fruits, herbs and cold coffee. The palate is light and floral with savoury undertones. A solid wine with, with a firm acidity and delicate finish from a lighter 1984 vintage. Drink within a decade' - Roland Peens 92/100, (July 2025)
Middelvlei Cabernet Sauvignon 1984
'A classy and delicious mature Cabernet Sauvignon from Tinnie Momberg in the heyday of Middlevlei. The nose is quite dusty and backward at first, but with time becomes alluring and open with dense sweet cassis and dried herbs. Beautifully balanced and elegant, with firm, deft tannins and sweet fruited finish. Quite Long and lacy. Very good. Drink over the next decade or two.' - Roland Peens 94/100, (July 2025)
Nederburg Paarl Cabernet Sauvignon 1984
'From the lighter vintage, there is attractive capsicum, spice and juicy red fruit. Floral notes, glazed cherries, tiled-earth and five-spice lead to a floral finish. Medium bodied and fresh with a solid texture. Delicious now.' - Roland Peens 91/100, (July 2025)
Uitkyk Carlonet 1984
'Super dense and bright colour. Very attractive, composed nose and structured palate. Well balanced savoury spice and layers of sweet fruit. Both floral and meaty. Medium to full bodied, quite delicious, juicy and long, and certainly one of the finest wines of 1984. Drink over the next decade or two.' - Roland Peens 94/100, (July 2025)
