Alto Rouge 1980
'The even years in Stellenbosch in the 1980s were generally the finest. This 1980 is unbelievable good and in fine condition. It is deep and exotic with alluring spice, baked meets and earthy edge. The palate is rich and moreish, with a slight mint adding complexity to a densely fruited palate. Long and confident in the glass. What a great vintage South African Red. It seems to be equal parts Cinsaut, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. I would drink it now (it's so delicious), but considering its fine balance it will keep further.' - Roland Peens 97/100, (July 2025)

'It's a savoury and earthy expression, opening to more fruit purity with air. A slightly baked character is well balanced by the dark fruit, dense tannins and good freshness. A little rustic but long and textured. Drink over the next decade maybe two.' - Roland Peens 93/100, (July 2025)
