Notes
Keith Joubert was born in Germiston, to the east of Johannesburg. He was exposed to wildlife and the natural world from an early age as his family regularly visited the Kruger National Park. This would inform his career as an extraordinarily successful artist and conservationist.
Joubert attended the Johannesburg School of Art between 1963 and 1967, where he studied Industrial Design. He subsequently worked commercially as a book illustrator, sign writer, and in advertising, before he became a professional artist in 1970. Joubert lived in various parts of the country but spent most of his working career based in a studio camp in Linyati in northern Botswana. Working in oils and watercolours, Joubert employed his skill as a highly competent draughtsman to create impressionistic and tonally rich images of the natural environment and the creatures and indigenous people who inhabit it.
Joubert participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions throughout South Africa and in Europe and the United States of America. His works are represented in private and corporate art collections throughout the world, including the Rupert Museum in Stellenbosch.
