Notes
Anne Rosat is a celebrated Swiss artist best known for her innovative contributions to the traditional art of découpage. Born in 1935 in the Canton of Vaud, Rosat began her artistic practice in the 1960s, drawing inspiration from the 19th century folk artist Johann-Jakob Hauswirth (1809–1871). While rooted in the customs of Alpine folk art, her work departs from convention through her distinctive use of vivid colour, embossed textures, and layered compositions, often dominated by her signature red palette.
Rosat's subject matter centers on pastoral scenes, rural life, and folkloric narratives, frequently capturing the spirit of Swiss village traditions and landscapes with intricate precision and emotional resonance. Her works are both technically rigorous and richly expressive, reflecting a deep connection to her cultural heritage.
The present lot is an early example of Rosat’s découpage work, illustrating the foundations of the style and thematic concerns that would later define her mature oeuvre.
Rosat has exhibited extensively in Switzerland and abroad. Her works are held in numerous prestigious public and private collections, including the Musée du Vieux Pays-d’Enhaut in Château-d’Oex, the Swiss Paper-Cutting Collection, and the Banque Cantonale Vaudoise. She remains a pivotal figure in the preservation and evolution of Swiss folk art traditions.
