Notes

Christopher Richard Wynne Nevinson was born in Hampstead, England. He trained at the Slade School of Art under Henry Tonks and later at the Académie Julian in Paris. Nevinson’s early work was influenced by Impressionism and Post-Impressionism before he became associated with Futurism and Cubism. He is best known for his striking depictions of World War I, which combined avant-garde techniques with raw realism, establishing him as one of Britain’s leading Modernist artists. In his later career, Nevinson turned to cityscapes, capturing the energy and architecture of London and New York through bold, dynamic compositions. His works are held in major public collections, including the Tate, The Imperial War Museum in London, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
