Critics Ratings

'The Boekenhoutskloof Franschhoek Cabernet has been sourced from the same vineyard since 1996 and is made in a deliberately austere style. Think St Estèphe, if you like Bordeaux. It’s a firm, slightly chewy style, showing grippy tannins, firm plum and damson fruit and a mineral-edged finish. Drink 2020-28.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 94/100

'Nicely rendered, with a brambly spine underneath a core of bright red currant, raspberry and plum fruit flavors. Enticing savory and mineral notes add range and energy throughout.'- James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (June 2018)

'This opens with classic Cab aromas of cassis, wild raspberry and plum, though the bouquet veers more juicy, vibrant and overall red in character than black. The medium-weight palate is plush and velvety in texture, with fine yet structuring tannins and bolder black fruit sensations of plum and currant that carry through to the long, cigar-spice-fueled finish.' – Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (May 2019)

'While recent vintages of Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon from Boekenhoutskloof seemed made in a fashion rather too eager to please, which is to say with plenty of ripe fruit to the fore and soft tannins, the 2015 is a return to form. The nose is particularly fragrant with notes of violets and fresh herbs before cassis, oak spice and some earthiness. The palate is relatively medium bodied (alcohol is 14%) with pure fruit, fresh acidity and well-judged oak. Subtle and elegant.' – Christian Eedes, WineMag.co.za, 90/100 (Apr 2018)
