'It may be auto-suggestion, but Iron always seems to have some ferrous grip to it, an intense, dry land Syrah with layers of tannin, blackberry and liquorice flavours and a twist of black pepper. Another Mullineux Syrah that needs time. 2022-30.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2018, 95/100
'Dryland Malmesbury hills vineyard with iron-rich koffieklip (ferricrete) soil, for distinctive ferrous/savoury nuance. Other layers include scrub, wild berries, seamed black pepper; 2016 'masculine', with excellent muscle tone. Long life ahead, as 2015 (4.5 stars, 93 pts).' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2019, 5* (95 pts)
'Matured in 25% new French oak for 18 months, the 2016 Iron Syrah delivers more red fruit on the nose than the 2015, offering cranberry, raspberry, pressed flowers and something a little exotic - marmalade and a touch of tangerine. The medium-bodied palate shows a fine bead of acidity and grips the mouth, the whole bunches lending an (appropriately enough) ferrous-like finish. Excellent.' - Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (Aug 2018)
