Critics Ratings

'Occupies this property's rarefied flagship slot; comfortably holds its own in strong field for Cape's finest red. Mainly Cabernet Sauvignon (about 70%), some Merlot and Cabernet Franc from miniscule 3-5 tonnes per hectare yields; 14% alcohol. Always well filled out, dense but fine, deep-layered fruit (sweet blackberries with roasted spices) and smooth, smothering tannins. Latest 2001, as previous, potently fruit-laden with usual trimmings, including toffee notes.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2004, 5*

'Ruby-red. Knockout nose shows an almost candied fruit character: black raspberry, plum, cedar, smoke, tar and roasted oak. Wonderfully sweet, broad and lush but with firm underlying spine and no sense of excess weight. Like the 2001 Cabernet, this saturates the entire palate. Incredibly suave and polished wine, with outstanding volume, sweetness and persistence. From a single sit. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc' - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 93+/100 (Mar 2005)
