'2015 maintains classic, ageworthy style of 2014 (5 stars, 95 pts) & previous. Black plum & cherry flavours in tune with fleshy ripe texture, all well-contained by firm, lively profile, snappily dry finish. Oak, 50% new, adds final polish to yet another winner from the pinotage maestro.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2018, 4.5*, 93/100
'From longtime Kanonkop winemaker Abrie Beeslaar comes this stellar expression of the grape. Ripe, full and powerful, it's wrapped in a plush yet firm and well-balanced package that should mature well through 2026. Upfront oaky notes of cocoa, toasted vanilla and cedar should further integrate into the rich plum, cassis and boysenberry fruit with time. Earthy and herbal tones of tree bark, fallen leaves and licorice root dance in the background.' - Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (Mar 2018)
'Now in its fourth vintage, this stunning Pinotage comes from a single 22-year-old block close to Simonsig on shale soils. Seeing less new oak (50%) than the Kanonkop Black Label, which Abrie Beeslaar also makes, it's a scented, smooth, beautifully balanced red with notes of mint, blackberry, fresh pastry, Asian spices and a core of textured tannins. My red wine of he year in 2017.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 98/100
'The Beeslaar Pinotage 2015 is the sort of wine you get when the person behind it is utterly on top of his game. This is the own label of Abrie Beeslaar, winemaker at Kanonkop, and his deftness with this sometimes tricky variety is all over this wine. A not too shabby vintage clearly also helped. The nose shows cherries and plums, floral fragrance plus hints of chocolate and spice, cinnamon in particular. The palate shows great density - pure fruit, bright acidity and firm but fine tannins. It's an acutely observed wine which provides great drinking pleasure - it just slides down now but should mature magnificently.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 94/100 (Dec 2016)
