Critics Ratings
Axe Hill Cape Vintage Port 2000:
Standout Cape challenger to the Douro's dominance of the port category. Luxurious fruitcake, Christmas pud aromas in current 00, though spice (cinnamon, cassia, allspice) rather than sweetness characterise this sumptuous SATWS trophy winner, ow also revealing tea-leaf, cedar wood and subtle whiffs incense; rich-textured yet amazingly unflashy… Traditional Portuguese vinification; 10 mnths older casks. Touriga, tinta. Alcs +- 20%.' - Michael Fridjhon, Platter's SA Wine Guide 2003, 5*
Beyerskloof Lagare Cape Vintage 2006:
'Lacks depth & concentration of SA's fortified first team but 06 has confident spiritous grip, interesting Turkish Delight aromas & bitter cherry farewell. Equal blend tinta, touriga &, of course, Pinotage.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2008
