Critics Ratings

Boplaas Vintage Reserve Touriga Naçional 1995:
'first release, 100% from Portugal's premium variety, planted in 93; deep ruby colour, characteristic aroma of cocoa/violets, great grip, but already accessible, voluptuous. 18,8% alc., 95 gms/l sugar, 18 months Portuguese 500 litre oak.'
- Platter's SA Wine Guide 1998, Best of the Bunch, Superior Cape Quality. SAA Port Trophy.

Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve 1996:
'(4.5*) Blackish plum with bright crimson rim, potent chocolate, tar and bouillon aromas, more spirity grip than 18,5% alc. would indicate. Massive structure, impressive length, best to date - 10 yrs of vigorous life ahead. Reserves only made in exceptional vintages.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 1999. WINE 4½ Stars

Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve 1997:
(4*) great example of what region and cellar can produce in a "reserve" year. This flagship now 60% touriga Naçional, 30% tinta b., 10% souzão. 18,8% alc., 94,5 g/l sugar. Gently oak-matured 2 yrs. Deep plum, with russet rim, inky, dusty, rather shy nose (when tasted mid-1999), hinting at fennel, bluegum - will open with time. Rich dark chocolate, plum, nutmeg flavours, together with veil of grippy tannins, promise well for decade at least. 96 (4.5*) really showing off, huge prune, mulberry wafts, over vanilla and mince pies. Thick, juicy molasses, cinnamon flavours complete make-up on an impressive, lasting Cape port.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2000
