A Japanese Hirado ware porcelain boat, Meiji period, 1868-1912

the body painted with stylised birds in flight above crashing waves, with a scrolling diaper band above, the centre painted with Buddhist symbols, the deck moulded with an anchor and painted with a pair of phoenix in flight amongst flaming pearls, the front of the bow suspending a moulded tassel, 35,5cm long; and a Japanese Kutani mirror-glazed porcelain boat, Meiji period, 1868-1912, the sides enamelled with flowerheads and foliage amongst waves, the deck with three rondels each enclosing peony blossoms, bamboo and foliage, against a diaper ground, the bow with gilt capping, inner recessed yellow-enamelled foot, black and green two-character seal mark, minor chips, 38,4cm long
