Critics Ratings
'The nose shows red and black berries, a hint of tomato cocktail, oyster shell and dried herbs on the nose - hardly primary but likewise little overt decay in evidence. The palate, meanwhile, is medium bodied with the fruit still intact, although the tannins are indeed nicely resolved providing the wine with a pleasing mellow quality. I agree it shouldn't be kept longer but it still provides plenty of enjoyment.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100
'Tried alongside the 1971 bottling, the 2003 Private Bin R163 Cabernet Sauvignon (Auction Wine) has some laterals to the 1971, but naturally, the 2003 was showing more vibrancy and focus. On the nose, the core of fruit is beginning to show slightly stewed with aromas of cherry compote wafting from the glass along with a waxy floral tone and hint of fried sage. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a lively structure with tannins that grip the gumline before leaving nutty flavors on the mid-palate and lingering with a stewed finish.'- Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate (Mar 2020)
