About this Item

2015 Syrah
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

Established in 1994 and with the first bottlings now already a quarter of a century ago, Boekenhoutskloof has achieved remarkable success over this period through supreme dedication to quality, sustainable farming and smart brand management. The result is a cemented position as one of South Africa’s top producers and a great investor’s pick in the top wines (which also includes Porseleinberg). Driven by the talents of Marc Kent and Gottfried Mocke, Syrah is the pick of the range, with critical acclaim from the early vintages, although Cabernet and Semillon follows closely.

The Boekenhoutskloof Syrah is sourced from two properties in the Swartland. The two sites (Porseleinberg and Goldmine) are unique for terroir of rocky bedrock and decomposed mica schist soils. This is the first vintage claiming “Wine of Origin Swartland” for this wine, and the blend comprises of 80% Porseleinberg and 20% Goldmine fruit.

Critics Ratings

‘Violet & lavender perfume on 2015, first entirely off 2 Swartland vineyards (2014 (4.5 stars, 94 pts) some ex Wellington). Brooding dark cherry & hedgerow fruit, leather & smoke; good grip of tannin on lengthy finish. 18 months mostly larger oak, none new; natural ferment & portion whole bunch.’ – Platter’s Guide 2018, 5* (95/100)

‘Released for the first time as a Swartland Syrah, with fruit taken from the Goldmine and Porseleinberg vineyards, this sees 10% whole bunches and is a remarkable wine: plush and rich, with notes of roasted meat, lavender and incense, dense colour tannins and a twist of pepper spice. Drink 2019-27.’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 96/100

‘The 2015 vintage is the first time that the Syrah from Boekenhoutskloof is certified as being from the Swartland. The nose is very fragrant with notes of black berries, olive, lavender, white pepper and just a hint of reduction. The palate is rich and broad and very well balanced – dense fruit and fine tannins before a long and savoury finish. Pretty damn sexy.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 93/100 (Sep 2017)
