About this Item
Groot Constantia VSOP Brandy 2014
Nestled in the fertile Constantia Valley lies South Africa's oldest wine-producing farm - Groot Constantia, founded in 1685. It is here that we believe time should be taken to first understand and then consume our award-winning wines.
Cape Brandy was first distilled at Groot Constantia as early as 1734. This 5 year old postill brandy is a tribute to the history and tradition of winemaking and distillation at Groot Constantia. From our cellars Napoleon, Frederick the Great of Prussia and Louis Philippe (King of the French) were supplied.
After the initial project started in 2010, it was only in 2014 that we felt that the quality was good enough to bring out a second vintage brandy. The 2014 Groot Constantia VSOP Brandy is a blend of 50% Sauvignon blanc and 50% Pinotage, the base wines were distilled in a traditional potstill kettle and matured in small 225L oak barrels before blending and bottling.
The nose shows caramel, peaches, and red cherries, with hints of almond and spice on the nose. This is followed by a complex, full-flavored palate of dried fruit, cherries and hints of citrus.
