Critics Ratings
'Made from a blend of 33% Cabernet Franc, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Petit Verdot, 17% Merlot and 13% Malbec, the 2015 Five Bordeaux varietal blend is well-integrated with aromas of spice box, blackberry and cassis with hints of herbal and softer oak tones. Medium to full-bodied, the palate leads to tightly structured fruit and tighter tannins. The wine ends with a complex finish that continues to evolve. I suggest giving this one some time in the cellar before cracking open a bottle, or enjoy it with food now.' - Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Mar 2020)
'5-part Bordeaux-style blend, cab franc led, mainly new oak, French barriques 18 months. Wonderfully complex, black cherries, dried herbs, graphite. Despite vintage ripeness, 2015 is designed to age: tightly packed tannins with a core of strength.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2020, 4.5* (94/100)
'Five is priced above Three, but isn't necessarily superior to it. This shows the concentration of a warmer year in Constantia and is another impressive red from Justin van Wyk, based on Cabernet Franc with support from the other four Bordeaux varieties. The 75% new wood needs time to settle, but this is a rich, serious, grippy red. 2020-28' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 93/100
'Alluring, with gently singed sage and mint notes wafting up first, followed by a silky, textured core of mellow cassis and cherry sauce flavors. Black tea and cedar hints lace up the finish. A lovely cool-climate version. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec. Drink now through 2022.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Jun 2019)
