About this Item
At more than 3,200 feet above sea level within the magical Cederberg Wilderness Area, Cederberg Private Cellar is South Africa’s highest vineyard. The Nieuwoudt family have been farming in the Cederberg mountain for five generations, with vines planted as early as 1973, but the brand has been energetically driven to become one of SA wine's real success stories by David Nieuwoudt, now at the helm. Thanks to the isolation of the vineyards and the extreme winters, the vineyards are largely virus and disease free. David has single handedly established an enviable terroir identity for the Cederberg, while simultaneously building other successful, pioneering wine ventures, notably Ghost Corner in the region of Elim.

Critics Ratings
‘Barrel selection, all new French. Cassis & cigarbox, 2013 has impressive richness, intensity, concentration. Stands for the family name (as next), must be worthy, & is. Mocha chocolate flavours & succulence make it accessible but the best still lies ahead.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2016, 4.5*
‘The 2013 5 Generations Cabernet Sauvignon, from vines planted in 1972, spent 18 months in new barrels. The nose is straight down the line blackberry and blueberry fruit that is nicely integrated with the oak – quite voluminous with distant scents of pine cone. The palate is medium bodied with juicy, saturated tannin, plenty of lush blackberry laced with cedar and graphite, leading to a sensual finish. This is worth seeking out.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Nov 2015)
