Cape stinkwood pedestal table, 19th century
the rounded rectangular top above a plain frieze incorporating two frieze drawers, each corner with drop finials, raised on a ring-turned support, on four outswept legs terminating in reverse club feet

Notes
Most pedestal tables were made in the 19th century as can be seen by their turned columns and tripod feet. This type of table design was popularised in England by Thomas Chippendale but was never very popular at the Cape, making this a rare example. It would have been used as an occasional, candle or bedside table.
