'Only 30 top barrels (100% French, 100% new) selected for this kingpin pinotage, memorialising founder Beyers Truter's beloved canine companion. 2015 is big (15% alcohol) yet fresh & refined, its rich black fruit complemented by liquorice & vanilla spice. 'The 2015 Diesel Pinotage was matured in 100% new French oak barrels for 18 months. The bright, vivacious bouquet features blackberry, wild strawberry and a touch of cedar, and seems to handle the new oak with ease. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well-judged acidity. It just doesn't quite build into something that's going to make a big impression, opting to remain conservative with a slightly predictable though undeniably enjoyable finish. This is a fine Pinotage, although perhaps not my pick of recent vintages.'- Neal Martin, Vinous, 91/100 (Aug 2018)
