The Iconic Helderberg property has title deeds back to 1693. Hennie and son Manie Malan recognized the property’s unique terroir for crafting full-bodied red wines early on, but it was Piet du Toit in 1959 that put Alto on top. Heritage and tradition married with evolution and innovation are the hallmarks of this estate situated in the golden triangle of Stellenbosch. Only five winemakers have crafted wines at Alto over eight decades.

‘One of South Africa’s most dependable quality red blend favourites - now, in latest 3 releases - undergoing a metamorphosis, from traditional Cabernet-dominated ‘89 - a warm, hearty 13.5% alc wine; to 78% Merlot-driven ‘90 with Cabernet Franc; and onto a complex, evenly matched mélange of 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot and 25% Shiraz in upcoming ‘91.
