Notes

'I am inspired by the archbishop’s life journey and in particular his capacity for forgiveness. This quote stood out for me: “forgiving is not forgetting; it’s actually remembering and not using your right to hit back”. I have tried to convey this message in my artwork. There is no future if we cannot forgive and move on. In my work there are pieces of paper that collect to form a 90 which references the archbishop this year.' –Samukelo Gqola

Samukelo Gqola was born in 1997 in Soweto, Johannesburg. He joined Artist Proof Studio in 2018 where he has had opportunities to work in the Special Projects Unit working on corporate commissions. Gqola is currently completing his fourth year at Artist Proof Studio in Professional Practice and is interning with the pro-shop and education units at the Studio.

Proceeds from the sale of this lot will go to the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation.
