Notes
Ramabulana's sculpture of a kneeling young girl is typical of his rough-hewn figurative style and the distinctive manner in which he combines carving and assemblage techniques with found materials. Atypical, however, is the addition of two wooden pegs that extend from the figure's knees. Perhaps carved as a practical measure to construct a means of support, the wood extensions feel like extra appendages and contribute to the work's unsettling quality.
