A Chinese embroidered linen and cotton bedspread, circa 1910
stitched with a central panel with a pair of dragons contesting a flaming pearl, enclosed by openwork floral borders with further rectangular panels embroidered with dragons, the corners stitched with Chinese characters, to a plain outer border, approximately 223 x 200cm
From the private collection of an influential Chinese merchant in Hong Kong and presented to William Henry Kelly, chief procurement officer of the Royal Navy for the Far East stationed in Hong Kong from 1895-1928, on the occasion of his marriage in 1910.
