About this Item
Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776 and since it’s modern era makeover in 1993 it has been under the guidance of maverick spirit, Marc Kent. Unafraid to experiment with the unconventional, Marc is the chief winemaker and driving force behind the dynamic farm, co-founded by the similarly innovative late Tim Rands.
Critics Ratings
‘A wine that was tight and reserved in its youth, the 2006 has clearly benefitted from the time in bottle. Quite elegant in the context of the Boekenhoutskloof Syrah of this era, it displays lots of spice and dried wildflowers, along with sour cherry. No dominance from fruit or oak, showing its class in balance and effortless power. Drink now – 2025.’ – Higgo Jacobs 2020, 95/100
‘Picked in four tries through the vineyard and aged for 27 months in used French barriques, the 2006 Syrah has a well defined bouquet with blackberry, mulberry, white pepper, roasted bell peppers and a touch of scorched earth. The palate is very well balanced with a beautifully defined entry: earthy, brambly black fruits, a touch of tar, sandalwood, white pepper and Provencal herbs that lead to an elegant, composed finish. This gorgeous Syrah is maturing beautifully.’ – Neal Martin, Robertparker.com, 94/100 (2011)‘
Big and powerful, with coffee, black currant and loam notes backed by hints of sage and tobacco. Muscular, but without sacrificing balance, as mouthwatering acidity and bright minerality stretch out the well-structured finish. Should age nicely.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (2009)
