Often described as the South African equivalent of a Grand Cru or First Growth, Kanonkop Estate is situated on the Simonsberg mountain slopes on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Owned by the fourth generation Krige family, Abri Beeslaar is their long-term winemaker who has won International Winemaker of the year an incredible 3 times.
The Kanonkop Pinotage has become a consistent flag bearer for the variety in serious clad, and is made from bush vines aged up to 64 years old. This vintage won a full house of awards including; a Platter’s 5*, ABSA Top Ten Pinotage, and the Perold Trophy for best Pinotage and ‘Best in Class – Gold’ at the IWSC in 2005.

‘Full medium ruby. Musky, gamey aromas of dark raspberry, truffle, roasted meat and flowers. Wonderfully sweet and deep, with wild, somewhat rustic flavors that some tasters may find daunting: leather, game, cigar tobacco, fresh blood. But there's also superb thickness and depth of fruit. Very long, ripe back end reminded me of a topnotch Cornas.
