Critics Ratings
'New release 1989 perhaps finest so far, certainly as packed with fruit, spice as kanonkop’s previous anno mirabilis, 1986. These are big, rugged tanniny wines – don’t look for restrained, understated finesse. 1989 noticeably better wooded that the other recent 1980s, touch more rounded out than unblended Cabernet. (Ch. Margaux’s Paul Pontallier prefers the straight cabernet, Robert Mondavi the Paul Sauer.) Blended about 70-75% cabernet sauvignon with 10% merlot, 15% cabernet France, a dash of souzao and melbec. Matured about 18 months, sometimes longer, in Nevers oak, about half in new, half in used.' - Platter's SA Guide 1993 - 4.5*
