Notes
Phelwana was one of the 'big tuskers' in the Kruger National Park, famous for the enormous combined weight of his tusks and the distinctive hole through his left ear, the result of being shot by a poacher. His tusks were 257 and 277cm long and weighed 63,8 and 71.7 kg, respectively. He plagued citrus farmers along the western boundary of the park near the Orpen gate, stealing naartjies from their trees. Sadly he had to be euthanized in 1988 after being injured for a second time by poachers.
An information sheet about the elephant accompanies the lot.
