Notes
Pierneef was daringly experimental in the mid- to late-1920s. Intrigued by radical new mark-making and madcap colour, his work during these years is varied and exhilarating. During his vital trip to Europe in 1925 he encountered overlapping modes of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism and Symbolism, while decorative mural painting, Divisionism, Art Nouveau and Luminism left their marks too.
Provenance
Johans Borman Fine Art, Cape Town, 2003.
Private Collection.
