A Chinese Export gilt and black lacquer work box, 18th century
the octagonal hinged cover decorated with figures at various pursuits before pavilions, the border with fruit, butterflies, foliage and flowerheads, the interior with an oval mirrored back, enclosing a removable tray with two covered compartments and further open compartments, in sizes, with pin cushion, ivory bobbins and further needlework paraphernalia, the sides applied with carrying handles, a frieze drawer below, enclosing a hinged cover and open compartments, the sides similarly decorated, raised on paw feet, minor wear to the gilding, 14,4cm high, 34cm wide, 24cm deep
