Notes
Constance Helen Greaves was born in Brighton, England. After completing her studies at the Brighton School of Art, Greaves came to South Africa in 1910 to teach and regularly traveled between England and South Africa. In South Africa, she fine-tuned her skill in portraiture and figure studies becoming well known for her 'native study' portraits in watercolour. In the early 1920s she settled in South Africa working full-time as an artist. She drew quickly with her paintbrush which gives her paintings a unique gestural signature.
