About this Item
A Chinese painted pottery jar, Neolithic period, Majiayao culture, Machang phase, circa 2200-2000 B.C.
Notes
In the late Neolithic period and early Bronze Age, China's northwestern province of Gansu was home to the Majiayao culture. Pottery from this period was used in a variety of contexts, however the large majority of existing artefacts seem to have been used within the context of funerary burials.
Provenance
This lot is accompanied by a thermoluminescence certificate of authenticity from Oxford Authentication Ltd, dated 17 January 2005.
