Notes
The city cuts you into pieces, wants different parts of you for different things. In the studio, a world within the world, discipline and order return. The room is filled with airy jazz, cool and clean. This is the place where Nhlengethwa glues broken bits of the hot world together again. Journeying back and forth in time, he collects fragments and relics of social history - newspaper scraps, photographs, old clippings and magazine cuttings - and reconstitutes them based on pictures in his head. Memory and imagination seized by paper, glue and paint.
