'Further wood maturation (for total 24 months in 100% new French oak) and softening in bottle have added extra nuances - and star wattage - to this long-nurtured, prestige Claret. Maiden 1998 - eventually available to an expectant market from October 2000 - announces itself with dramatic inky colour, waves of blackcurrant/forest fruit aromas woven with aromatic cedarwood, and Bordeaux-like hint of tar. Restrained ripe fruit flavours with tobacco leaf complexity, fine Merlot mineral thread. Firm dry tannins, persistent finish hint at long-term ageing potential. 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.
