About this Item
One of the crowns in the Distell fine wine portfolio, this beautiful and established 1000ha Franschhoek property with its imaginative winery architecture has a history that dates back to the French Huguenot settlement in the Cape in the 17th century. In 1693, Cape Governor Simon van der Stel granted land to Charles Marais who named the farm after his hometown, Le Plessis Marly. Later in the hands of his grandson, Jacob, the estate grew to one of the finest in the region.

Critics Ratings
‘An example of SA’s most modern, gentler, finer Cabernet. Highly and widely acclaimed for its supple tannins, ripe cherry-mulberry fruit. Dark chocolatey soft textures too. 1994 with noticeably bigger and wider - but not aggressive - tannins than initial, super-velvety 1993. Ripe secondary layers of fruit-cake, even almondy flavours developing. Silky mouthfeel. Altogether, in a Cape context, “discovery, departure” wines of international class .' - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 1997, Superior Cape Wine
