"I have an enormous passion for the regions that formed me: Namaqualand, the Hantam and Bushmanland … The quiver tree is my selfportrait. It is a tree that can survive. It exists in difficult places, but it does its duty. Though the world around it is hard and dry, when the time of the year comes, it pushes out its colours."
