Specialising in Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc, Raats Family Wines was established Bruwer Raats at the turn of the millennium. He believes the secret to his Cabernet Francs success is that they are old vines grown on decomposed dolomite granite. This belief was not unfounded, as today, Raats Family Wines is regarded as a leader of South Africa’s Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc, receiving consistent local and international accolades.Early vintages are elegant, refined and still remarkably young today. 500 cases made, with 80% of it being exported to Europe and the US.
‘Beautifully crafted & multifacted red, stand out example in South African context. 05 as perfumed & darkly spiced yet more slender, understated than rich & velvety 04; needs half a decade for latent berried fruit to harmonise with firmer tannins. French oak +-19 months, +-30% new.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide (2008)
‘Red and black fruit, pencil shavings, spice and fynbos on the nose and palate. Good concentration, fresh acidity, fine tannins. Sweet-fruited and relatively plush. Shows pleasing development. Drink well now. - Christian Eedes Winemag.com 91/100 (2012)
