Warwick
Cabernet Franc, 1999
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Situated in the Stellenbosch region, with a history dating back to 1771, Warwick Wine Estate was purchased by a Commanding Officer of the Warwickshire regiment in 1902 and he renamed the farm Warwick as a tribute to his regiment. In 1964, Stan & Norma Ratcliffe started redeveloping the estate, through the planting of Bordeaux varieties with son, Mike Ratcliffe, eventually taking over the reins in 1999.  In 2018 Warwick was acquired by Eileses Capital, a San Francisco investment firm. Warwick was among the first estates to bottle Cabernet Franc as a single varietal in 1988 and has become synonymous now with Cabernet Franc ever since, with multiple Platter 5 Stars.

Run of quality started with landmark 94 Wine (5*). 99 leads with variety’s stalky/brambly aromas and terse, abbreviated palate; huge tannins demanding time to soften, let raspberry/redcurrant flavours through. Should last 10 yrs. 100% varietal (except for 93). +-20 months French oak, 30% new.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2002
