About this Item
Meerlust Estate has been the pride of the Myburgh family since 1756. Having previously visited Bordeaux, Nico Myburgh realised that the terroir there was very similar to that of his farm near the Eerste River. In 1978, Giorgio joined Nico at Meerlust in which was to be a dynamic, fruitful decades-long friendship and partnership between owner-vintner and cellarmaster.
Proclaimed by Meerlust to be one of the very best produced it achieved a silver at the 2019 Old Mutual Trophy wine show and 2015 Sommelier Wine Awards.
Critics Ratings
‘Distinctive, with singed iron and lilac hints, followed by a mix of boysenberry, blackberry and black currant fruit flavors. Dried star anise, cinnamon and black tea notes fill the finish, with iron-coated grip underneath. Tastes like a meeting of Cabernet and Nebbiolo. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2020. 1,500 cases imported.’ – 91/100 Wine Spectator (2015)
‘Lively pencil lead, cocoa, oil and tar aromas – real sophistication with a flash of green character on the palate and pert tannins. Supreme length.’ – Richard Hemming MW 17.5+/20, JancisRobinson.com ( 2018),
