Botanica, located on Protea Heights farm, was founded in 2009 by owner and winemaker, Ginny Povall. Since Protea Heights farm was the first in South Africa to cultivate indigenous protea flowers commercially, it is fitting that the wine labels are floral themed. Just under half of the 21.6 hectares are planted with indeginous flowers, and since 2014 Botanica has been practising organic farming in their 5-hectare vineyards.
From the Citrusdal Mountain ward which also supplies grapes for the likes of Alheit Vineyards’ Magnetic North Mountain Makstok and The Sadie Family’s Skurfberg, the Botanica Mary Delany Collection Chenin Blanc from Ginny Povall has many fans.
Each of the labels depicts a botanical collage created by British artist Mary Delany. These remarkable works of art were hand crafted in the late 1700s using hundreds of tiny pieces of cut paper.
