Established in 2007 by the dynamic husband-and-wife team, Chris and Andrea Mullineux have, in a very short space of time, established Mullineux as one of South Africa’s most celebrated producers. Their track record speaks for itself: Awarded Wine Enthusiast’s International Winemaker of the Year in 2016, Tim Atkin’s SA Winemakers of the Year in 2017 and Five times Platter's Winery of the Year (2014, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2023).
Grapes for the Schist Syrah are sourced from a single parcel of sustainably farmed 21 year old vines planted in the stony Shale and Schist soils of Roundstone Farm on the Kasteelberg. This parcel of Syrah gives the best expression of the Kasteelberg’s terroir – density and structure.

'A very ambitious red from Chris and Andrea Mullineux, which sets a new benmark for Cape Syrah. Produced in small quantities, but this is well worth tracking down: a dense, muscular red with notes of smoke, blackberry and liquorice, structured tannins, aromatic spices, a hint of fresh tobacco and an elegant, refreshing aftertaste.
