Strauss & Co is pleased to announce a weeklong public showcase of important artworks from its forthcoming Cape Town sale at Morkel House in Stellenbosch. This extraordinary display in one of South Africa’s oldest buildings runs from 4 to 8 March and will include museum-quality works by Irma Stern and Alexis Preller.

Strauss & Co’s much-anticipated March sale in Cape Town contains a bounty of eleven lots by Irma Stern, South Africa’s most valuable artist at auction. The Stern offering includes three exceptional portraits from the painter’s highly prized Zanzibar period (1939–45), one of which is unrecorded in literature about this prolific artist.

Strauss & Co’s forthcoming live auction in Cape Town includes three Zanzibar-period paintings by Irma Stern, a major work by Alexis Preller, museum-quality Cape furniture and a selection of fine Chinese and Japanese pieces. Originating from four highly important single-owner collections, the works will be offered to the public at the Vineyard Hotel on Monday, 18 March 2019.
